Balanced Rock by taffy

Balanced Rock

My mom and I spent an hour in the Garden of the Gods city park in Colorado Springs. So nice to have bright sunshine and a blue sky. This rock started its formation over 300 million years ago...and the little narrow pedestal has supported this 700 ton rock for thousands of years according to the park info. Hard to conceive both time and weight. For scale, see if you can see the person in the green shirt to the left of the rock. Nice day with family. Great shot of a local icon. Love Garden of the Gods!

Did you use some sort of filter to get the sky like this Taffy? I'm finding at times that I still over for the sky at times. Unsure whether people who have more success are using filters, underexposing, editing or metering differently. Are you doing anything special to keep the sky like this?

I have been there and what an awesome place! I'd forgotten how big some of the formations were and the fellow in green really brought back the scale! Great shot!

@newbank Thanks for the comments Ruth! A few things worked for me here. First, the sky in Colorado Springs is quite an amazing blue in the morning especially -- nothing like we have in the midwest for sure! I often use a polarizing filter -- best investment for daytime photography. But, I was using my superwide that can't take a filter. So I added it in ColorEfex during post processing. I also used the 'brilliance/warmth" filter at the lowest setting. The rocks here glow and the sky is amazing, so it really is more the landscape than the filters in this case.

Wow, that looks huge and dangerous to sit under! Lovely colours and textures.
October 9th, 2014
Omg I had no idea how big that was until I saw that person. It looks very precarious and I am not sure whether I would be wanting to stand under that. I suppose it is well supported as it it so huge.

Just catching up whilst I am on the train going to the city.
