Reconstruction Ahead

No need to comment...a documentation posting for my own records.

Fire update, March 14
Construction is moving along slowly, but we need to get going on identifying cabinets, ordering furniture. Today looked at: cabinetry for kitchen, granite and stone for countertops, hardware for sinks and cabinets, furniture of family room, Jim's study, my study, dining room. Feeling of the day: We got a lot done! Number of actual decisions made: zero. AGH! Very overwhelming. Lesson from today: our taste exceeds our budget!
Wonderful collage. I know the feeling.

Great collage! I like what you were looking at too, but I can identify with today's lesson only too well. :-)

I love your collage and imagine how ones taste can exceed the budget. Glad you are making progress.

The prospect of it all sounds quite daunting! I guess one needs to prioritise and get the bare basics sorted first.

Making so many design decisions at once is daunting! I always advise my clients to pick one element that they absolutely love first, such as kitchen cabinets or flooring or tile. Then the rest falls into place. You can adjust your budget by choosing less expensive cabinet hardware or countertops. Same goes for furniture decisions. The journey is the joy!

Great collage Taffy! It all sounds a bit daunting when there is so much for you to buy! Scary too when you look at the prices! Elizabeth's @redy4et advice sounds very practical and worth trying! Good luck and take care!

Doesn't our taste always exceed our budget?! Lovely collage to document this aspect of your progress.

I think everyone's does taffy!! hope it's not too overwhelming and you can find what you like and can afford.

@redy4et Thanks Elizabeth! This is helpful -- a useful perspective for us to take!

Sounds like progress is being made. So many decisions. I guess thinking back if you ever thought if I could change this I would _________. Now so your chance. Good Luck

This is a great collage for giving a sense of decision-making and how difficult it is when there are so many choices. Spend more on things you can take with you if you move :)

Great collage and yes the $ can mount up quickly...beautiful samples in your shots

Gorgeous but stressful!

Numerous decisions can be overwhelming. Take a cue from my local jeweler: they never put out more than 3 options. With the 3, take away at least one before adding any more.

Most of us have that feeling. Sometimes what you do is start simple with the idea to expand as you can afford it. Get the layout of the cabinets that you want and latter you can change the doors and the hardware.

a very busy day you had! I know the feeling about taste exceeding the budget ;)
March 15th, 2015
What an enormous job it must be - good luck.

That looks like a very busy day. Glad things are moving

Always hard to make so many decisions in one day. I would start with the granite, then match that to the floor...........coz there is the most of those to look at, then do the other bits. We have fantastic Corian worktops with cheaper cupboard in the kitchen as I just couldn't compromise on the way the Corian sink blends into the worktop with absolutely nowhere for germs to lurk!!

How fun! Construction going slowly? Is there another speed? haha, I know how you feel!
March 16th, 2015
That is a lot of decisions to make, and I'm sure it could look daunting. But it must be fun too, reinventing your homes 'look'.
March 16th, 2015
@eyeamlisa Slow and steady -- but we're pleased to be in the temporary condo through spring. We have so much to do to our house ready to move in!

@888rachel There are elements of fun -- especially picking out some new things for my study, and a desk in anticipation of getting a large monitor, which is exciting. It just takes so much time! I hadn't anticipated this part of it. Next year would have been an easier one with more time available!
March 16th, 2015
I know that problem only too well. I have impeccable taste - what I choose is almost inevitably the most expensive one of whatever, and well beyond my budget. Good to hear there's been some progress on the home front though. You must be hanging out to get back home.

@golftragic Well, to be honest, we will be so sad to leave our current place! We've grown to love the single floor and don't miss the stairs at all, and we love love love the view. But if we can work out the furnishings the way we hoped, with the new kitchen, etc., it won't be bad going home.

@taffy I can well understand the attraction of no stairs, my dodgy undercarriage does not like stairs one little bit these days. And that view is to kill for. Mmmmmm. I sure see your point/s.
