Watching Water Boil by taffy

Watching Water Boil

I've been enjoying Mad Hatters theme this week of First World Problems. Check out the tag madhatters-firstworldproblems for a good laugh. This doesn't quite measure up to the posted ones, but it certainly struck me as a FWP when I was complaining (at length and quite seriously) to Jim that I'd forgotten to order a new kettle and what a pain it was to watch so water didn't boil out (one of my unfortunate tendencies that ruin our pots and pans). Nice to be faced with this as a serious problem -- makes me conscious that I am indeed fortunate despite this crazy fire-year.
Boiling water in a pot always seems to take longer and never tastes the same as water boiled in a kettle! Indeed some first world problems do seem rather trivial when taken in the greater scheme of things!

Ah, good one, Taffy! I'm been more aware all week of how silly (non) problems affect my day. Kudos to the Mad Hatters and to you for a fun capture.

Lack of kettle-boiled water is definitely FWP :)...neat shot

Try this one: madhatters-firstworldproblems (then folks will see all the others. This is indeed a great fwp.

I meant, "try this tag"

Oh I giggled. Apologies. Glad not just me that pan burns. Multi tasked leaving our tea to simmer whilst eating lunch. Read burn for summer.

Fun image, enjoy the simple life :) By the way, I think your tag is off - it's missing a "s" on "madhatters", so it is in a category on its own now :)

@vera365 Thanks Vera -- just fixed the tag.

Ah no kettle is a serious problem.

A long wait but isn't it worth it? Love this shot.

@creampuff Ah, no...I so felt the need for a faster cuppa that I've just ordered an electric kettle to replace the one that went off. Definitely a case of first world problems! At least I didn't pay extra for overnight shipping!

Makes it more of a holiday when you have to use primitive methods! As long as the beds aren't primitive, that is!
May 30th, 2015
Haha, the water boiled in a billy makes super tea and coffee :)
May 30th, 2015
This sounds very serious to me Taffy!! I think you should have paid the extra for the shipping just to put your mind at rest!! Nothing like a good cup of tea ready just when you want it!! I hope the kettle is the only thing you forgot!! When we got to Devon last week I had left quite a few things behind - not like me at all!! Brain definitely not functioning properly at the moment!! Fav for a lovely image!!

Awesome shot

@maggiemae Ha! I agree! We 'rough it' on the island, but that mostly means a smaller space and cooking three meals a day instead of eating out. So, nothing to complain about re primitive, I admit!
May 30th, 2015
@pamknowler I had to laugh as I thought about paying the extra, but then thought, I"m only here for 2 1/2 more days before we go home, the thing would arrive on Monday, meaning the only time I'd use it is Tuesday morning -- so bravely decided to forego the extra expanse. Can you believe how much thought I put into it??? So silly!

Watched pot never boils. I know from experience. :-)

Lovely capture and love the words.

This made me smile. When we had no power for five days recently we had to boil water in a whistle kettle on a gas burner and it takes forever. I thought of my Nanna saying "A watched pot never boils".

Made me smile and love the narrative.
We are using pot boiled water a lot recently with our "load-shedding" - this is when South Africa (who seems 1st world in some things) becomes 3rd world for a few hours!

I love your story, and it really is a first world problem. I can just imagine the pot boiling dry and being ruined!

Great story and capture!

To me, Beaver Island and pot boiled water sound like thry should go together.

LOL If you think waiting for a pot of water to boil on the stove takes time, try waiting for a pot of water to boil on a woodstove!! (Which is what we had to do after Sandy hit). Fun shot!

Indeed. But we are ever-so-spoiled-by-Zojirushi.

Love this! Electric tea pots are great! Hope you don't have as many mosquitoes that remember from last year??
June 1st, 2015
@eyesmile Thanks!! So funny you should remember the mosquitoes...looking back, I must have gone on and on about them! They're not great this year, but nothing like last year. AT least they aren't lined up on the screen keeping us inside! Instead, we can go out with our head-nets on to protect us. A huge improvement!
