Our mentor group is learning about focus stacking. For this shot, I used 6 photos that had the same aperture and were supposed to have the same shutter speed (and using a tripod), with manual focus. For each shot, I changed the focal point so that there were six shots, each with a different focal point, but using f/8.0 consistently. Unfortunately, I had bracketing on by mistake (from an earlier shot), so my shutter speed was inconsistent. The point of focus stacking is to have clear focus across the depth of the shot.

Finally had a go with focus stacking, which is a lot harder than it looks to get the photos -- the process was straightforward once I got it into PS. Jane, your directions were great!
I never thought to use focus stacking on a landscape! I assumed it was for macro shots! I am home now so hopefully will be able to have a go at this. Lovely scene with the autumn colours and rushing water! Fav!
It is such a beautiful, tranquil scene! I so want to try out focus stacking. Most of the blurb that I have read refers to close up shots. I have never considered doing a landscape. You are inspiring me to give it a go!
Beautiful image. You are making me realise how little I know about photography though - I had never even heard of focus stacking! I'll be learning about it from now on though!
@jgpittenger@888rachel Haha!! I did another one today with 11 photos, of a waterfall. It ended up over 2GB of a file! Will post this week sometime. I feel like I've learned a lot about this in a short time -- very exciting to have a way to improve focus!
