Day 7 - Walking into Simpsons Gap by terryliv

Day 7 - Walking into Simpsons Gap

First stop in the the West MacDonnell Ranges is Simpsons Gap. We were here 17 years ago and it was great to be able to go back and see it all again.

Normally there would be no grass here, just red rock and gravel but after this years abnormally wet and not so hot summer and early autumn, the inland was covered in vegetation.

Don't bother to comment. Just telling a story.

I've somehow missed most of the photos from your trip and have just gone back over them, Steve is now weeping in the corner saying "I wanna go back"! This looks a great deal more lush than when we were there, there had been a huge fire through most of the McDonnell Range at this point, so good to see it recovered. Did you stay at Glen Helen campsite - what did you think of it?

Hi Judith. The wet season this was a good one for The Centre and I will refer to it repeatedly over the next few postings. As for Glen Helen, you will have to be patient on that one.

Tell Steve that since Covid and the lock down of Oz, caravan sales have exploded. So there will be plenty of others to accompany you when you set yourselves up over here. LOL

Despite the greenery, it still looks like a very hot place.

I think I have a photo about exactly the same in 2017! It's a spectacular place - fav. And Judith @judithdeacon hope you get back over here soon, and I hope you've given Steve some tissues :)
