Continuing my week . .now 2 weeks . . of birds in our backyard . . and front yard.
Not much of a shot but beggars can't be choosers.
The Pheasant Coucal is a large (up to 70 cm) heavy-set bird adapted for living on the ground and, reminiscent of a pheasant in shape. They are irregular and fleeting visitors to our place and yesterday we had one in one of the trees in our front yard. By the time I grabbed the camera and went down stairs he had moved on and I missed getting a photo of it.
However, we did have one in one of our palms last month that I managed to get this shot of so while it was not taken this week, Section 42, sub section 27, clause iii of the 365 Project Rules of Engagement for this little project of mine permits me to post this shot.
We knew it was in the palm at the time since it was calling out with its very distinctive oop oop oop oop call.
These are so tricky to photograph. Theres one pumpong out his oo,oo,oo right now but try to snap him and he's up into a tree and hidden in the foliage in a wink. Youre lucky to have as clear a photo as this. Its one of my goals to get a decent shot of this bird. You'll probably hear my YEAH in Brisbane when I do.
