A Surprise Visitor

Continuing my week . .now 2 weeks . . of birds in our backyard . . and front yard.

The call has really gone out in the bird world about my Birds in Our Backyard project.

PeeWees (or Mud Larks) are a very common bird around Brisbane and most of Oz for that matter. However, we have lived in our house for almost 45 years and have never, ever seen one in our backyard before. Often when we see one somewhere else, we will make comment about how strange it is that we don't get them.

And this morning, bingo. There was this fellow foraging in the grass and strutting around our yard as if he owned the place. Just managed a couple of shots of him before he took off. What an unexpected bonus.

Now all I need is for a couple of the recalcitrants who have remained in hiding for the whole 2 weeks to make an appearance and I'll be happy.
Great capture

They are certainly a bird that you see all over the country. Funny that they should have stayed away so long.

We have peewits, or lapwings. Named by their call, I believe. A different bird from yours, however. Lovely image!

Isn't it a joy when the unexpected pops up? I was so worried about my lone babbler and during bird count week he appeared in a group of 4. I was ecstatic.
