Finishing up on my week . .now 2 weeks . . of birds in our backyard . . and front yard.
The two recalcitrants have not showed up to have their photo taken so it is time to wrap up this series with the Rainbow Lorikeet that eveyone is well and truly familiar with.
For the last few years, the Aussie Backyard Bird Count has placed the Rainbow Lorikeet at the top of the list as the most numerous bird species in Australian backyards.
As I have said on numerous occasions, they are noisy, aggressive, extroverted, inquisitive, gregarious, funny, etc etc etc bullies and have learned to adapt very well to the urban environment. They occur along the east coast of Australia from the Cape York to South Australia. They have also been introduced into south west Western Australia where they are now considered a pest as they are taking over the habitats of the less aggressive native parrots and other honey eaters.
I hope you have enjoyed spending two weeks in our backyard observing the birds that come to visit us. Just to put it all into context, we live on just your average size suburban block of dirt about 7kms from the centre of Brisbane, a city of 2.5 million people.
