On the flight back from the Painted Desert, we passed over the Anna Creek Station homestead.
Anna Creek is the world's largest working cattle station and is part of the Sidney Kidman empire. At 24,000 sq kms, it is roughly the size of Israel and twice the size of Belgium. This modest group of buildings is the station homestead from where sprawling station is managed. Both the Oodnadatta Track and the Coober Pedy road cut through the station.
If you interested, Anna Creek and Kidman's other ten cattle properties are up for sale and you can have them at the bargain price of about AU$1 billion. It is highly likely that the properties will be purchased by Chinese investors.
Once again I need to apologise for the lack of comments. We are currently on the road visiting relatives down south and wont be back home until later this week. I'll do as best I can as time permits and with variable internet connections.
@lyndemc That was one of the surprising things out there Denise. The limited vegetation that the land produces is extremely nutritious and the cattle thrive on a much lesser volume of feed. ALL of the cattle we saw were in fabulous condition.
@terryliv Interesting. That would mean your Australian beef is likely very tasty and far more healthy than most. Thanks for the follow up info. You're great about sharing extra tidbits.
