The shearing shed on Cordillo Downs station, about half way between Innamincka and Birdsville, was the largest in Australia. As such it was probably the largest in the world.
In the 1880s, Cordillo Downs set a record of shearing 85,000 sheep in a season.
Because of dingo attacks, Cordillo Downs switched from sheepo to cattle and the shed ceased operation a s a shearing shed in 1942.
