Looking west along the QAA line track to the next dune.
The most popular route for the Simpson Desert crossing goes from Birdsville in the east to Oodnadatta in the west, a distance of about 650kms. The trip will take about 4 days and in the process, cross 1133 sand dunes.
All vehicles making the crossing are required to have a fluro flag at least 3.5 high so that two vehicles cresting a dune from opposite directions at the same time can be aware of each other.
