Clay Pans by terryliv

Clay Pans

On the way back from the Painted Desert.

These are not water holes you can see but clay pans. After heavy rain they would have water in them but after the water dries up, they are just flat areas of clay that don't support ant vegetation.

Do any people use the clay to make pottery? A resource like this would be well used for that here.

Makes an interesting landscape. Are the clay areas still soft with water?

@cejaanderson @888rachel When you are running a cattle station of 24,000 sq kms, I think the last thing on your mind would be making a couple of flower vases.

@shirleybankfarm Don't know Shirley. I asked the pilot to land so I could find out but he refused.
I suspect they do still have some moisture in them.
