The bank opposite the house is home to a particularly virulent strain of Chinese weed (we call it a Triffid) that is almost impossible to kill. The farmers hate it but if you try to clear it, the smallest piece of root left in the ground will produce several new growths. We don't mind it at all because it creates a thick green screen which shields the view of traffic coming down the main road. But the canes from the previous years growth have to be cleared each Spring and here's Mrs S doing a great job. You can also see the drifts of snowdrops and daffodils on the bank.
