This image is to accompany my main 365 posting for today - Old Water Mill - and is a close-up of the remains of the undershot water wheel itself.
As you can see, the iron hub of the wheel is still intact and several wooden spokes are still attached to it. If you look down into the mill-race channel you will see, at centre bottom of the picture, a spoke with a semi-circular piece of the rim of the wheel still attached. The wheel would have had paddles positioned between the two rims which would have been turned by the current in the mill race. The small stream that fed the mill has now been diverted and runs just to the left of this image.
For more information and a view of the remains of the mill itself, see my main 365 album posting for today.
Ooo! Rusty stuff! You know how I love rust. The textures on the rocks wall are fantastic and contrast wonderfully with the leaf-covered ground. Thanks for mentioning that the stream still exists and has just been diverted. I was wondering about the water source.
