I've taken a lot of pictures of fungi this year, quite a few of which have ended up on here. Each time I look at a new find, I am fascinated by the shapes and textures - normally a good foundation for a monochrome image - but the colours are usually so interesting, and sometimes even gaudy that it always seems a shame not to feature them.
Today I came upon this group of fungi whilst walking in the forest and I there and then decided that today would be the day that I posted an image of monchrome mushrooms.
The contrast in this photo is beautiful! Someone once said that fungi are a bridge between life and death. They do live in that middle ground, I think. Excellent capture. Instant fav.
Wow, this is beautiful! Great b&w, love the different lighting, plants and leaves around the main subject, and the lines on the mushrooms. Well done and a favorite for these reasons!
I need to look for some of these when I am out. Though with snow predicted for Wednesday I would say I probably won't find any. My world looks this color now without turning it to monotone. Not inspiring. UGH You have found a way to make things look good.
@trinda In real life they're a rather 'in your face' shade of dirty orange so going with monochrome was an easy choice and I choose this dark sepia shade to hint at the colour we often call 'mushroom'.
Fantastic shot Richard. Great focus and composition, and I really like your processing with the sepia tones on this. As always I learn from looking at your work.
