Pileated Driftwood by 365karly1

Pileated Driftwood

This is an old snag that once lived along the lakeshore and at some point was blown over and fell into the lake. The holes were made by Pileated Woodpeckers - for nesting purposes and also as they looked for insects to eat. I suppose it will become shelter for fish or a shelf for turtles to sun themselves. Talk about recycling!
My goodness I didn’t realize woodpeckers made such large holes in the wood. Yes, natural recycling is wonderful.
