Today was the nicest day, weather-wise, we've had in at least three weeks! A glorious blue sky with only a few patchy clouds lasted throughout the day and into evening, and I headed to Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver.
This little cove to the west of the lighthouse involved a rather precarious scramble down to reach it, over slippery rocks and big drops. It was exposed to the waves coming in from the Strait of Georgia, and as quite a wind was blowing, they were breaking quite ferociously.
I set up with my wide-angle lens and took a few shots, but it wasn't as dramatic as I wanted. The usual rule with a wide-angle lens applied here -- get closer!
I'm quite happy with the result, and getting soaked up to the knees, along with bottom two-thirds of the tripod, was probably worth it!

Another beautiful shot, so clear, and no sign of noise at ISO1600 what-so-ever. Did you edit in HDR? Great shot (again), although if it was me, I would have been extremely worried about getting my camera wet with salt water!
@rwhite I did have my hand on the tripod ready to lift it up if the water got too high! I was expecting at least some spray on the lens glass, but as far as I can tell I didn't get a drop on it!
It's not HDR but it is two exposures -- because I was already struggling with light and didn't want to go much above ISO 1600 (I needed a short exposure to get the motion in the water without it turning into mist), I was stuck at f/8, which wasn't really enough depth of field to go from my tripod leg, just out of shot at the bottom, to the horizon. So I took a shot focused on the horizon and clouds, and a shot focused on the nearby rocks, and blended them together.
Really nice Alexis. Just the right shutter speed to capture the power of the waves. You comments about soaked up to the knees reminded me that I've been away from the sea for quite some time now. This shot makes me realise why I miss it.
@noragentian This was about 25 minutes after the sun had set, so the light levels were quite low. By the time I'd packed up my equipment, I was walking back through the forest to my car in the pitch dark!
Just slow enough to begin to get the "silky water" effect. I've yet to find a good subject to try this with. Can't see any obvious high ISO noise, so great. Nice shot.
