For a few minutes on Thursday evening it looked as though we might get an interesting sunset, with a gap appearing on the horizon and some orange and pink colours coming through.
In anticipation, I headed over to North Vancouver, but unfortunately by the time I got there the conditions had worsened, with the colour on the horizon gone and little chance of the sun breaking through. Reluctant to head back home without getting the camera out of the bag, I set up for this long exposure shot looking west. I used a 3-stop graduated ND filter to control the brightness of the sky compared to the ground, and a 10-stop ND filter to allow a very long exposure time of 15 minutes, taken at ISO 200, f/8.
I'd hoped for more texture and motion in the clouds, but the result was still probably better than going home empty-handed.

Much much better than going home empty handed. Love the effect of light radiating out from the centre and detail in the foreground. Also like and appreciate your commentary on how you took the image.
Sue is right... the licheny rocks "rock." If you had more movement in the clouds, it wouldn't lead you to the horizon light point, so... well done! Lovely, as always. :)
