This pic is also part of my occasional 'How to Bath a Parrot' series :) I took a stack of pics of Magic bathing this morning. Technique-wise this is the least good, but it has made me laugh every time I've seen it while trying to choose, so here you go :)
(There was no coercion involved - Magic flies herself into the cubicle, lands on her shower perch, and is usually content to just sit there and enjoy the steam. Today, however, she must have felt the need for getting REALLY wet... She walked along my partner's arm and just sat there, getting wetter and wetter, until she could barely fly!
I love it! I have a cockatiel who is impossible to bath, she hates it! Occasionally I catch her trying to wash in her drinking water and then she'll let me spray her with a water spray but she's way to scared to go in full on running water! I'm trying to get her look at your pics!
This is gorgeous. I think I've told you that when it rains, our aviary birds hang upside down on the wire, making sure that the rain gets right in under their wings. They love getting wet and Magic has just confirmed this. Look out tomorrow morning. this may become a ritual. :-)
@sbothers Both Magic and Phoenix are very particular about when they want to bathe - usually about once a week, early-to-mid morning. Phoenix just runs through a pie dish full of water ( http://365project.org/alia_801/365/2011-04-09 ), while Magic either sits in the sink ( http://365project.org/alia_801/365/2011-04-30 ) or the shower. But try to get them in when they don't want one, and you're fighting a losing battle!
I love this! I totally believe this would be a voluntary thing, my husband had two budgies and a bird similar to Magic and they all took showers with him (long time ago). Our Finch isn't quite there yet, but he will fly into us doing the dishes (and we will then take him to the bathroom sink for his proper bath).
