I figure that selfies are about capturing some aspect of ourselves. One thing that defines a lot about each person is their parents - through genetics and nurture. Here's a pic of my lovely parents enjoying a ride on a Welsh railway. I don't get to see mum as often as I'd like, living on the wrong side of the world as I do, but I still love her lots and lots :)
(It's not quite selfless - I'm there in the reflection :) )
PS Sorry for the lack of comments tonight - I went to a friend's solstice party and now I'm trying hard to stay awake long enough to write this! Comments will return tomorrow!
I see you! Nice selfless selfie! I cannot imagine living that far away from my mom (she has passed now, but before that, she lived an hour or so away). Bless your heart. You must miss her! btw, I love that curly headed kid's peeking face on the pic too...a stranger I assume?
@kimmistephens The solstices are the longest and shortest days in the year. Being astronomers we look for excuses to party and therefore celebrate the occasion :)
(Many ancient monuments are aligned with the position of the Sun at the solstices - it rises over the heel stone at Stonehenge, and floods some ancient tombs in Ireland only at sunrise on one of the Solstices.
That's such a nice shot of your folks! And a great idea for the selfless selfie! I don't think we realize just how much of an impact (positive or not) our parents had on us until we are older. Good one Alia!
