Not the best pic, but the one that represents my wish best...
We got Phoenix as a rescue when she was about 5 years old. We don't know what her background is - she was either mishandled or was kept for breeding - either way, she was scared of people, especially men, and terrified of hands.
A few years later, she'll now sit on my head, climb on a ladder I (or other half) hold for her, take seeds from our hands and will even nibble my finger. She still won't let us touch her though. My dream is that one day she'll trust me enough that she'll snuggle up to me just like she does to her furry sleepy tent...
My cockatiel is like that... he does not like your hand to approach him.. he will sit on my shoulder if he approaches me... he won't eat out of any hands but will come right down to my face for a chat.
I would imagine that whatever it was it will take a long time to erase that from her experience. But it's obvious she trusts you to some degree otherwise she'd have no contact with you at all. I guess it will take a lot of patience. Jeff likes to watch this show "Dog Whisperer" every now and then in which this trainer breaks the bad habits of different dogs. I wonder if there's a bird whisperer that could help Phoenix?
You can`t project humans behaving and wants on birds. I think you did already a great and wonderful job on her.
I`ll keep in mind if I`m in the neighbourhood of that church see it`s open and take some pic.`s inside. ( if it `s allowed ) It has a wonderful organ I`m told
