It's not easy capturing birds in flight!

Even though I have two birds sharing the house with me, I struggle to get good 'flight' pics. Some days the camera just seems to do what I want - at other times it stops and thinks just at the wrong moment. No amount of fiddling with modes or flashes came up with anything focussed today, but there's something about this 'abstract' Magic pic that I somehow like...
I, too, somehow like this in-flight "movie". The blur gives it a certain something!

Very cool. Maybe research panning and try that? I do like the effect here!

Great motion shot Alia.

I'm thinking video her and then extract a still - or better still - post the video - I love this!

This is a gorgeous shot, even if it isn't what you wanted. I suspect that you are too close to your birds to get a good flight pic. The trick is to focus on the bird and then keep the camera on them while they fly, clicking away as you go...I doubt that you can do this inside.

I really like the mid flight blur as a cool effect!

I like the effect too. It took me a moment to realise what it reminded me of and then I realised - it is like those 3D/moving picture cards that I had as a kid - the ones with a plastic layer with grooves in it, and you tilted the card back and forth and it appeared to move ...no idea what they were called, but anyway - this Magic shot reminds me of that

Google has revealed that I was probably thinking of lenticular pictures

@lbmcshutter I remember those rulers! (Probably still have one somewhere). The pic does have that kind of feel...

Magical feel to this...

Very cool action shot, Alia! I too have trouble getting motion shots. Mine does the same thing. It's hit and miss. Usually if you have it set for auto and the flash it should do stop motion. But nevertheless, this is a wicked cool pic. Good job! :)

It reminds me of those stop action shots they use in sports to analyze a dive or gymnastics move. Cool.
