Woolwich Arsenal by andycoleborn

Woolwich Arsenal

Not sure what's gone wrong here... Every pic was blurred tonight..It's either me or the camera.... Probably me tho..!

I worked nearly 13 hours today - 7 hours at my real job, busy as anything on the PC all day followed by nearly 6 hours door knocking and form filling doing my temporary work so I could but it down to tiredness that every single long exposure shot turned out pants tonight..

Or it's the camera... A colleague used it yesterday and I'm wondering if it might have been dropped or knocked and there's something wrong internally..

Either way.. I'm too tired to care tonight..

This by the way is a view looking south across the Thames to Woolwich Arsenal. The real home of Arsenal Football Club and proof they're a South London team... For those not in the know, Arsenal moved from here to North London in the early 1900s

still looks great to me! :)

So I could have bumped into you!!! It was amazing ... I was there with some Pakistani friends of mine who were encouraging me to take every angle of everything! My photos were absolute crap but I need to get some to them before they fly back to Pakistan so am editing like mad ... it was such a hazy day so views were not very good. But I discovered via my friends the most amazing place to eat near Whitechapel ... have you ever eaten at Needoo's? If not, do so ... it's incredible!! The owner used to either own or work at the famous Tayyab and he features constantly in the national media. It's cheap cafe style and incredible!! My hands were much too greasy to pick up my camera there - but the food on the table would have made a fantastic photo!

@gill haha... that's in New Road and 5 mins from where I work and yep, been in there quite a few times for an extended lunch.. Good grub and service and agree, a decent price. I think he use to be the head chef at Tayyab's... Or so I was told..
Personally, I think Tayyab's is over-rated. The grill is ok but the rest so-so.. Having a Bengali fiancee, suppose I'm spoilt and use to the authentic stuff lol
April 22nd, 2011
Love the colors in this, crossing my fingers it was you and not the camera tonight.
April 22nd, 2011
Oh wow ... so I must have been stalking you yesterday!!! ;) I've not been to Tayyab's but was well impressed by yestersay's food. Ah, and yes, you're right, he was the head chef - that now rings the right bell. I can imagine having a Bengali fiancee you'll know what's good and what's not ... perfect! When I worked in the area I used to teach Bengali students but never got to know what the best places to eat were!! Tsk!!!

@gill Ah.. And now here's the difference... Sangeeta is Bengali as in from Bengal, India.. Bengali's in T/Hamlets are actually from Bangladeshi and as such, are Bangladeshi..! Apparently to 'true' Bengali's it makes a lot of difference ?!?!?! Or so I'm told...
April 22nd, 2011
Yes, all the youngsters and the families I worked with were from Bangladesh, so definitely not from Bengal. How interesting is this!!! I never knew that anyone other than from Bangladesh would be called Bengali ... and yet that must sound totally naff if you come from Bengal! This is so interesting Andy!
April 22nd, 2011
@gill Bengal in India is West Bengal. Bangladeshi was, prior to partition, East Bengal... So to me both Bengali's..

I have to use both phrases - at work Bangladeshi's are Bengali, with Sangeeta they are Bangladeshi..!!! I get it wrong sometimes...lol
April 22nd, 2011
@gill Should also add Indian Bengal is mainly Hindu.. Bangladesh mainly Muslim... Suppose that's something to do with it...
April 22nd, 2011
Well that is so interesting ... what's so amazing is that even now partition causes so much in the way of division (I guess though I shouldn't really be that amazed!) and yes, I think I would get it wrong too! I'm so used to calling Bangladeshi people Bengali because that is how they describe themselves - this is soooo complex! Yes, the Bangladeshi community are very much Muslim and I recall celebrating Muslim events when I worked in the area. I didn't know that those from West Bengal were Hindu - I can only imagine how strong and difficult these divisions are - and the world we live in with all of its complexities must make it so much worse. Thanks for all this info Andy!

Like the lines of light. I find it hard to take clear shots at night with my P&S...be interesting to see when I finally upgrade to a DSLR whether I can get consistently better shots.
