Auntie by andycoleborn

Auntie

She's not really my auntie, but she is a real life granny...!

At work (and behind her back) we sometimes call my colleague auntie - which in Asian culture is a polite term for someone who is a little older than you... If she was about the same age, she'd be sister... If she was much older, she'd by mother... You get the idea...

Another work Christmas function - this time a pensioner's party... I wasn't happy with the pics I took tonight as I was having trouble with the venue's ceiling height and the flash...

Nice portrait! And yes, I understand the language issues. Japanese, which I speak reasonably well, is full of these references.

Yes indeed they do.
As we too used to as well.
I can remember when all my parents' friends became honorary aunts and uncles automatically,. I never called an adult by their Christian name, it wasdeemed very rude.

@june Your right - I'd completely forgotten that.. My parents always made me call their friends auntie or uncle or Mr & Mrs Whoever, never by their first name...
