I know this is no great shot but the place is on the M62, a road well traveled by our family, where the motorway had to be built as separate East and West bound carriages to accommodate a farmer who refused to move, so local myth has it. That took nerve on the farmer's part but I hope he's been happy with the result for the last 40 years! "The little house on the prairie" is the local nickname for the farmhouse stranded between carriageways.
Thank goodness for Neil. I did wonder. The story is no myth. I remember every detail of the successful fight the farmer waged against Officialdom. The new M62 came fairly close to our (then) home and we cheered him all the way. I have always enjoyed this particular stretch where the two carriageways part company and I have a little smile of deep satisfaction remembering a brave man.
Nice shot and what an interesting story. I heard that story too, but I believe it was nothing to do with the farmer refusing to move. I believe it was due to the geology of the area and the difficulty in building a motorway because it was too steep, so the motorway had to be split and Stott Hall Farm just happened to be in the middle.
At that time my Mum and sister lived in Lancashire and my Nanna lived in Yorkshire, so we know the area quite well. I had left home by this stage though.

Not sure I'd want to stay and live with the noise 24/7 ?!?
