There are remnants of times gone by all over Manchester. This market was a hive of activity and vibrancy selling fish, meat, fruit and veg. It must have been a sensory overload. Built in 1858 and closed in 1972, some of it's buildings are still used today. A new Smithfield Market exists a couple of miles from the city centre.
