Woodsmans tools - 24-2

Here are a selection of woodsman’s tools, billhooks, axes, barkers and a cross cut saw not sure that they are proper antiques but they are very old. The billhooks are a Elwell, Fussell and one is blacksmith made by Willis from Brambly in Hampshire. The barkers and axes are also Elwells.
Barkers were used for stripping bark from oak trees that was then used in tanneries. A more cheesy photo here http://365project.org/barrowlane/taketwo/2013-02-24
Great shot for word of the day( we some old woodsmans tools still in use as well). Wonderful composition and tool are well presented

Like the composition, remember playing with billhooks when we were young! Don't think that would happen nowadays ....

@mcmary @ch1ppy_m1nton thanks for the comments I must admit though when I saw photos on my computer I wished I'd arranged them slightly better.

@khirsch thanks I would arrange them differently if I took it again.

@barrowlane This happens me very often , thinking a different arrangement might have been better. Its still a great shot.

Hi Rob
Any chance of another photo?? A close up of the Willis Bramley and the stamp he used?? Been looking for one of these ever since I started collecting billhooks - at least a good photo will be useful. See website A Load of Old Billhooks at www.billhooks.co.uk
