'children are made readers on the laps of their parents'-emilie buchwald

i went to a friend's baby shower today (okay, if you want to know the truth, it isn't my friend that is having the baby--it's her son and his wife!! so there. i'm old.) ANYWAY, one of my favorite gifts to give are books, so i purchased several of our old bedtime favorites from when my boys were tiny. oh, the memories that are conjured up from these words and rhymes! i actually ache remembering those sweet little punkins that would sit on my lap in the rocking chair as we read these books over and over--til they had them memorized. they are some of the most precious times in my life. and while i'm thankful that they were 'made readers' and enjoy getting lost in a good book, i would give anything to go back and pull them onto my lap, letting their chubby fingers turn the pages as i read to them once more!!
Great shot! Great choice of books. My kids are 21, 17 & 14. I absolutely agree that reading to my children is some of the most precious memories.

What a lot your *friend's son's baby* has to look forward to! This brings to mind that I'll enjoy some book time with our little guy next week in Chicago...

Aww, I boxed all of ours and sent them to the attic. Hopefully, they will be enjoyed again. I think I've memorized every one of these!
