100 mile hero! by bcurrie

100 mile hero!

i had to give my oldest son some love in a photo today, since his huge accomplishment was a bit overshadowed by his little bro's sleepover collage! this photo is from yesterday, when he and his dad returned from wichita falls after the 'hotter than hell' ride. he did incredible--cycled the 100 mile course in under 5 hours, averaging 21mph. he and his dad had an awesome time together, and we're so proud of him! we're also excited about an opportunity he has this week--he is meeting and riding with a local junior cycling team in the hopes of being invited to join!
i hope i don't regret the off-hand promise i made recently that if he becomes a professional cyclist before time for college, he doesn't have to go...

*just a disclaimer--he is only putting the bike into the garage here after unloading it from the truck; we absolutely never let him ride without a helmet! (:
Wow, what an accomplishment. Nice job! I think that would be quite an honor if he were to be invited to join the team, but something tells me he wouldn't put off college, do you?

I'm impressed - 100 miles. That is awesome.
I am trying to decide if I will do a 160km (100miles) ride in November. The longest i have done is 100km. I just might be challenged now to take it on ...... :)

That's awesome! My husband did a 24 hour 600 KM Randoneer ( that's spelled wrong, I know it! ) ride one weekend.
Drove me crazy with worry. I made him check on every couple of hours ( about 18 years ago, before we had cell phones ), and of course, I didn't sleep all night. I think I annoyed him so much that was the last one that he did, as I'm sure it had NOTHING whatsoever to do with the fact that it was a SIX HUNDRED KM ride. ;-)

I missed this somehow. Just browsing through your work again. THIS is the best portrait of him. He looks so in his element here. I love this pic.

What I would give to be able to go back a few years and pursue what he's doing! So good to hear he loves it so much, and has the potential to make a living out of it someday!
