We were hoping to catch the rhododendrons in bloom, but they were pretty much done by the time we got here. You can see a couple in the foreground. From what we hear, it’s spectacular when they’re blooming. We drove to Mt. Mitchell, which at 6,600 ft., is the highest peak east of the Mississippi River.
