Kookaburra sits by bella_ss

Kookaburra sits

...on the old dead tree. Lots of birds appreciate the dead tree on our back fence, even the ones that don't eat the seed that we leave out. Kookaburras are meat eaters.

Thankful - for winter, because on days like this (37C), we can't wait for it to come :)
Beautiful shot Sheralee, fabulous focus and DOF. What lens did you use for this and what were your settings? instant Fav

@elaine55 Thanks Elaine, I used the Tamron 150-600mm @ 400mm
ISO 2000 1/1000 sec @ f/8

He's gorgeous! Are you happy with the Tamron by the way as we are researching lenses for birding and wildlife?

These are just the cutest birds. Wonderful capture of him...great detail, and such a great expression. What do they eat...like field mice and such?

He is gorgeous. We have a pair of kookaburras who visit every day and we feed them raw mince. They weren't happy when we went to New Zealand for two weeks and really told us off when we got home.

meat eaters! The things you don't know (I didn't even know kookaburras were real birds until my twenties...I thought they were a made-up bird in that song).

@dibzgreasley Debs, I love it! It's really sharp. The focus seems good, I'm a bit off here but that would have been me and not the lens probably. I'm really happy with it.

@eyesmile Yes Gena, snakes, mice, insects, anything that moves :)

@amfrumbiddivurd I love hearing them, they can make a racket but I still love it.

@peterlgrave They seem to come and go here Peter, it's only recently that they have started landing on the dead tree.

@onewing I've never tried feeding them Babs but we have bush at our back fence so there is usually plenty for them to eat out there. They would have really missed you!

@francoise Haha, well, that's understandable Francoise :)
