We were up early to arrive in the dark at the sunrise viewing area. We weren't alone, there were plenty of people doing the same thing. There are seats and shelters and even wifi so you can post your pics online or call your daughter in Canada as I did just to say "look where I am". Between the trees on the left you get a glimpse of Kata Tjuta and in the foreground are lots of flowering grevilleas with that amazing red soil.
I was there so many years ago it was still called Ayers Rock and you could climb anywhere on it. We knew it was a significant place for the Aborigines, but it hadn't any of the protections it has today. It felt like a magical place even then. I've enjoyed your images of it today.
@taffy The only time people are not allowed to climb is when it's too hot (which is often) but due to the spiritual significance to the aboriginals they ask that we don't climb. We didn't but 36 people have lost their life climbing it.
Gorgeous! When is your flight over to Ontario taking place? We went through an ice storm last week and potentially have one for Monday into Tuesday. It's been a really rough winter so far and we're only half way through. Think I'll fly back with you to escape this winter. ;)
yes, like kass, i could fly back with you too. lots of snow and ice this winter. when/where regarding your trip? doing anything in addition to visiting your daughter?
@bluespirit@sunnygreenwood We have a few days in Vancouver before heading east and arrive on the 29th. We figure with the weather we will just plan things as the weather allows. Hoping to visit Niagara and Quebec City. If you came over here you would still want to leave, we need a happy medium, it was 38C here today!
