This memorial is just outside of Bethnal Green tube station in east London. The memorial commemorates the Bethnal Green tube disaster in 1943. The memorial commemorates the worst civilian disaster of World War II. It happened off the stairs of the station where 173 died in a crush of people trying to get to the tube air-raid shelter.
