Wish I could have gotten closer, but for being a giant and noisy bird, it is very shy. Am happy to have gotten this! Saw it swoop in before I heard its slow tok-tok-tok, sounds like someone hitting the tree with a baseball bat. There is a tree nearby that looks like it could be a nesting tree, am hopeful!
Three good things:
1. To have such a beautiful creature in my back yard
2. Lots of dead trees beyond my fence line for woodpeckers
3. An extra hour of sleep from the time change
