sentinel

Keeping with my bird theme. I'm always surprised at how many birds don't seem to be bothered by cactus spines. This is a starling. It is native to Europe. People brought it to America and now the starling has adapted to the desert.
He's playing "King of the Hill" - neat shot.

I think that might be the most dramatic starling I've ever seen! I like the foreboding you get with the colour edit

Very neat shot. A fav. There is something iconic about that high column with the bird atop it. Looks like something you would have seen if the Third Reich had ever established itself in the American Southwest.

Luckily that never happened, of course. And so we can just enjoy this photo for its unlikely pleasures.

@mbrutus what an unexpected analogy, but I can see where that thought stems from....reminds me of this website: http://www.thirdreichruins.com/reichsadler.htm

Excellent capture.

Nice capture and editing. We have lots of starlings in the UK too. The cactus looks very tall I guess it must be very old.

@365street Yes, it must be an older cactus...it takes about 100 years before a saguaro grows its first 'arms'
