another one gone

Two views of a fallen saguaro. Climate change is sadly taking away Arizona's most iconic cactus. The summer of 2020 was so incredibly hot and it really did many of them in. Some died right away, but many are falling a year and a half later. https://dbg.org/a-disappearing-icon/
Oh, and the round cacti (the brown tufts in the foreground) died too because of the excessive heat. This yard lost a lot of its desert flora.
It so sad to these fallen giants.

it is beyond tragic - it looks like some of them are young ones, could they be planted to replace the old one?

They can be dangerous, they can be incredibly heavy

@koalagardens Nope. They are all pieces of the same cactus and cannot be replanted. (I looked it up before)

Such a tragic sight especially when those shoots can’t be replanted!

How sad

How sad this looks - not surprised that it took this long to create the problem. Can't see how there are some who still can't see the dangers of climate change.

Such a loss.

It's a shame.

can the arms be planted? would they sprout again?
February 1st, 2022
That is very sad, sorry to see it

What a shame - it's such an iconic plant. Is there only so much heat they can handle (i thought cacti love heat)?
February 2nd, 2022
@christinav yes, they need to cool off at night. Nighttime temps have been through the roof in the summer recently.

Oh this is really sad to see!
