Portrait of a Northern Beauty - Tyneside: Past

Swan Hunter Shipyard, Wallsend

They don't build ships on the Tyne anymore...

In its heyday Swan Hunter employed 15,000 people and built the Mauretania. The offices in Wallsend now employ 200 staff working in ship design and management. The shipyard closed its doors in 2006. Within 12 months the iconic silhouette of cranes and the floating dock were gone - moved to an Indian shipyard in their entirety.

I decided to do a portrait of my adoptive home.

Thought this would be a good opportunity to work on my B&W skills - feedback welcome! Best viewed large on black I think.

Thank you all for the time and and all your comments on my last few shots :-)
i am intrigued by this photo because it works, at least for me. you have portrayed 'the past' by the blurring of the main subject. i find it very clever, i wish i had thought about it myself. i like it!

You did good - really looks as if the wall is the present and the building far behind as a distant memory :)
