In our backyard this morning we found a juvenile crow that had been kicked out of his nest and was being watched over by his noisy family. Since he couldn't yet fly and was perfect game for Ginger the Wonder Dog, we called animal control and the police took him away.
It's that time of year. I saw two fledglings today begging from their parents and being pecked in return. The harsh reality of growing your wings is eventually you have to fly on your own. Great shot, and story/deed.
Is that YOUR hand? Did you actually touch the crow? I'm not a fan. personally, I might have let Ginger have her way with him. Or is that wrong? Wait, was that my outside voice?
Thanks for stopping by and commenting, friends. The hand holding the crow belongs to a very nice Santa Ana police officer from the animal control division. She was kind enough to provide me with a lot of information about crows that I did not know, and to pose him for a moment so I could snap a pic.
Some recent studies suggest crows are much more intelligent that previously thought. This guy is probably grateful to be on the dole, now. I wonder if it'll ever see his family again after foster care? Quote the raven, nevermore. ;o)
Oh, and incredibly cool and rarely seen close-up of a crow. I've had several pet birds and always wanted a crow to see if I could teach it to talk. But it's illegal to keep them. To get one that young would be perfect for bonding and a tame disposition. He's kind of cute, too. I wonder why they call a group of them a murder? Maybe best to let them be. ;o)

@tolpol - Yes. And a visible tattoo.
@cjwhite @parisouailleurs - The officer said they have blue eyes until they're able to fly, and then they change to yellow.
@rich57 - You are very punny.
@Weezilou - The Wonder Dog was beside herself, going crazy inside the house over the trespasser in the backyard.
