This image is deeply personal. Around a week before my brother died 3 years ago from cancer. He was in Hospice for 13 days before passing. I learned a lot about death and dying over this time. Its not unusual for the person to 'rally' briefly after extended periods of subconsciousness. This was such a moment.. he was a little confused about things.. but none the less was chatty and wanted selfies! They're out of frame, but also in the room were some of David's old workmates (other tradies - David was a builder) and their casual humour was a breathe of fresh air. Open ya eyes ya bastard! they said. Hilarious. I found it very hard to otherwise feel anything other than deep sadness. (having a broken arm didn't help matters)
Miss this guy alot.
Such a powerful image.... thank you for sharing such a personal moment. I chuckled when hearing the 'work mates' comment. My husband has a construction company and a crew of colourful characters work for him. I can only imagine the things your brother's friends were saying. I hope he took comfort from them.
@kwind thank you. I'm not even sure if i'm going to leave the photo up, but at the time felt compelled to post it.. I'm not sure David really knew who they were.. probs that they were family.. but none the less it was a funny and precious moment.. he lapse back into 'sleep' not long after and remained in lower states of consciousness for the following week.
