On Saturday my friend and I volunteered at the annual Cancer Society, 21 km evening Walking Star fundraising event. I've walked it twice before and this year I'd like to volunteer. Some 3000 people take part in the Auckland event - and its such a buzzy amped atmosphere. Our main job for the evening was cheering on the walkers as they left the park and then to give out the medals as they crossed the finish line 21 km's and some 2.5 - 5.5 hours later. Needless to say it was a very late night. The final people completed at 1.45am on Sunday morning!
Most of the walkers get dressed up - but we decided as Volunteers we'd also get into the mood with our lovely purple wigs and flashing lights!
