So it seems that this statue was a bit lost on me as I didn't know what it represented and totally missed the back of the it which showed the names of the children and depicted a railway line (I'll have to get that pic another time). Due to tight time constraints I quickly took the photo and sped off to the underground. I had to read up on what it was about when I got home.
The statue resides in Liverpool Street station and represents the children who were fleeing persecution in Germany and Austria. Many were transported via Liverpool Street to be fostered by English families. Most of the children never saw their families again due to the holocaust. It's a truly sad story. And someone has thoughtfully put some flowers in two of the children's hands. A quick google search shows that this is definitely not the norm. It's a very thoughtful gesture and is much needed in these dark times of extreme politics, refugee suffering, war and destruction.
I love this statute and have often walked past it but been unable to see it all in one go as there are so often people gathered round it. This is a gorgeous shot.
@casablanca It's the first time that I've seen it and lucky for me then that there weren't many people around. I think everyone was rushing to get to work.
Lets just hope those sad times aren't coming again.
