Chapel Market. My home town. I was brought up close by and remember this market with fondness. You'd walk through it and say hi to some of the street vendors. You knew where they'd be on what days. Woolworths was situated at the Angel end and was where you went for Christmas decorations and presents. It's changed heaps since my childhood. Not necessarily for the worse but I do feel that it's harder for the traders to make a living as the big chains have moved in and whilst they can bring custom they can also certainly take it.
I spoke at length to the lady in the middle. Sharon runs S and S Hair Town selling hair products for black hair. She was asking me how long I've been growing my locs for and what sort of products that I use in them. She's two years into her loc'd journey compared to my five. We call it a 'journey' as all hair is different. How long will it take to grow your hair past your ears? How long to shoulder length? What oil suits your hair type? Do you wear wraps. We're just interested in other loc'd people's journeys. It's a big step to loc your hair and never be able to truly comb it again without cutting it all off and starting it again.
Sharon's sister, Lopez, is to the right of her. She looked a right character. The full length photo that I took shows her in orange fishnet tights, overlayed with over-the-knee pink with black stripe socks and pink paten DMs. In fact, I wish I could have just taken her picture but I wasn't brave enough to ask the other two to move to the left.
