Trying my hand at manual mode on camera. Finding it incredibly difficult to get sharp focus on the bumblebee.
Any helpful tips greatly appreciated
Also not sure if it works with background ? Too distracting??
With this type of close-up shots, I focus manually on the flowers and don't turn the focus knob anymore. I hold the camera firmly with both hands and make minimal body movements to focus on the right point (bee). It is also important to set the correct aperture to get enough depth of field. In times of memory cards, we can also afford to use the serial mode. I know it's a lot of garbage, but sometimes you get an amazing shot. You can also use a tripod, but with such fast and unpredictable movements of insects, it is not very effective. You can also (if you have this option in the camera) set focus point tracking. But it doesn't work for insects.
I like this shot very much. It's sharp in all the right places and wonderfully colorful. At most during editing, I would brighten the bumblebee to show some details.
@haskar Thank you so much for taking the time to give me such kind advise. A lot of good information for me to take on board. I have a nice bridge camera that has so many functions I need to learn to use. I think focus bracketing is one of them. I hope this is the series of aperture settings you mentioned. Maybe I need to go back to the manual 🤔 then practice lots more
