This morning we went to explore a small historic cemetery with the B&W writing challenge in mind. The cemetery includes Maori and some of the early English settlers in the area, including missionaries and others from the armed forces and their families.
We hadn't been there very long when we were approached by another visitor to the cemetery. He was an unusual character, telling us he was a historian who used to own all the land around here. The conversation ranged from Maori injustice at the hands of the British, to spiritual matters, and finally a warning that anyone photographing in a cemetery could be suspected of stealing dead people's identities. Unfortunately he became uneasy when we asked permission to photograph him, and declined.
This photo was taken when I revisited a favourite tombstone (Annie's), surrounded by an iron fence.
