We have been reading about the Southern Lights (Aurora australis) recently and hoping for an opportunity to see and photograph them while in the South Island. I had asked the members of a facebook group for recommended viewing spots in the Wanaka area, and one person suggested Eely Point, so we drove to have a look at it late this afternoon.
While there, the last of the day's sun spotlit these poplars in the distance, and it looked like more rain was on the way.
