@cityhillsandsea I'm feeling rather bereft as I was to have been in Japan in February. For two weeks. This is the longest I have gone without being in my homeland, since it's now been just over a year since I was there last. Lately I have been drawn to wanting to just wander around the country. Without schedule or even much of a destination. Maybe I will go on a Fuji pilgrimage around the country like you did.
@jyokota Ah the old wanderlust... I understand completely, especially with my clock ticking down. I've never been to Nara so I'm hoping to do that before I leave, plus I'm also trying to do all the Musashi stations too so I'll have to get down to Kumamoto at some point... It's very difficult to know what's the best thing to do though with the pandemic. Just taking it day by day!
@cityhillsandsea I have been there many times, but always with people who have never been there before so always seeing Big Buddha, pagoda, deer, etc. The last time I went was with my sister and family, so I sent them all to the big spots without me, and I hired a taxi to run me around to the smaller temples I had never been to. It was August, hot and humid, and the respite of air conditioned taxi in between each spot was really nice. I'm a big walker so I can't believe I hired a taxi like that but it was only for a few hours and some of the temples were a distance away from the others. Totally worth it. https://365project.org/jyokota/challenges-and/2016-08-10
@jyokota I'm hoping to check out the Hasedera in Sakurai as a kind of symmetrical counterpoint since I was at the Kamakura one yesterday... other than that, just wander around Todaiji's grounds and soak up the atmosphere. It's kind of nice not having a checklist!
