Cool Camouflage! by cjwhite

Cool Camouflage!

My family has really been supportive of my 365 project. They are always keeping an eye out for cool insects and spiders I can use.

My mom called late this afternoon and told me there was a big walkingstick on her roses. She lives about a mile from me and she said she would watch it until I got there. LOL!

I haven't seen one in a very long time and never one this big! It has to be a Giant Walkingstick. If it's not, I don't want to see one! This one was about five inches long.

It changes colors to match the environment. It was more red when it was on her roses. I brought my own grass stalk to take its pic on. I knew her roses were in the shade this time of day. :0)

Thank you so much for your comments, views, and faves!!! :0)

@chard LOL! You should have heard her when I called her back and told her they eat roses. I had put him back on the roses. I'm guessing that he is residing in the pasture now. :0)

Great photo! I haven't seen one yet this year. It is amazing how many people think the praying mantis is the stick bug.

A great looking bug.

Great find and composition. Good thinking to place the walking stick on a grass stalk. My parents used to have these at their retirement home. The walking sticks were large like this and scared me by dropping onto me.

Skinnnnnny. I wonder what diet they are on? Bringing the grass stalk to have some prop in the sub was very far-sighted... A THINKING photographer!

Nice to have family spotters for you; mine do that, too, although one son lives 3-1/2 hours away and is always telling me about the great shot I would have got if I'd been there. Haven't seen a stick insect for ages around here, so nice to see this great shot of yours.

I love that everything about this guy mimics a branch or part of a tree or bush. Nature is truly amazing in all of it's forms. Go Mom!
