Widow Skimmer by cjwhite

Widow Skimmer

This dragonfly got the "widow" name, because the male leaves after the female lays her eggs. Other dragonfly species stay with the female.

I was lucky to find a pic soon after I went outside. We are having record breaking heat for this time of year. It has been 95F the past two days. The shade has been my friend.

Thank you for your kind comments on yesterday's bee and allium! I'm going to try to stay away from bee pics for awhile. :0)
Oh - so fabulous! Fav.

Absolutely gorgeous, as always. And I just want to say "Thank you," for all your encouraging comments on my photos. You always have a good word to say (and an encyclopedic knowledge of dragonflies!), and whenever I start thinking, "Nobody notices or appreciates my project" you come by with encouragement. Thanks.
