Olympic Torch Bearer - Matt Greenwood by clairecrossley

Olympic Torch Bearer - Matt Greenwood

Matts Nomination - Matthew is 19 years old and has been a volunteer coach for our local swimming club for the past 3 years. He spends between 3-4 hours each week teaching younger children to swim and coaching the older swimmers. He is a true role model to the young people in the club and is respected by both swimmers and parents. Matthew is an executive officer on the club's committee and is totally committed to promoting swimming in our local community. He was one of the youngest people in the country to gain the ASA Level 2 Teaching award and is currently studying to become a Level 3 Coach. He devotes many Saturday evenings to accompanying the swimmers to coach and support them at galas. Matthew has worked hard to become a Level 3 Sports Leader, and has been selected to work with the ASA Youth Forum for 3 years. Matthew spent several days last year as a volunteer biographer with the ASA at the Youth Championships, and hopes to do the same again this year. He is passionate about sport in general and has helped raise money by swimming in the local Rotary Swimathon. Matthew would be a worthy person if he was selected to carry the Olympic torch, and would be proud and honoured to be considered for this opportunity.
So he got to carry the torch and you were there to witness it! Great shot, Claire!
