We were desperate, we didnt see any of these giant birds in the Daintree national park, so frustrated we started to think it was a legend for tourists ;).....so we have been to a wildlife reserve to see one, it's big and colorful.
A strange animal, sort of mix of head of turkey, body of ostrich and colors of a parrot !
I was very happy to see one even if it wasn't in its natural environment.
Fantastic colours, a wonderful bird, I lived all over Australia for 25 years and never saw one!! I have just looked though all your postings from down under, you are having a fantastic trip and have taken some awesome photos.
@bobfoto@ozziehoffy we have been lucky .... He crossed the road in front of us, we slow down like mad and stopped while he was staring at us during 1 minute I was so surprised I didn't have the reflex to take my camera :(
@cocobella - oh that would have been cool. I have family in Tasmania and they say the Tassie Devils play on their back lawn in the evenings! I should go one day!
Definitely my favorite bird! I was lucky enough to hear one make it's rumbling deep bass sound. You would think there was a prehistoric beast growling at you! I would hate to meet one in the wild

But we have seen a Tasmania devil close to cradle mountain so we have been lucky enough ;)
